HamBone

Added on by John Sturr.

This is one of my most favorite photos -- ever -- and it's ironic it was taken in a place of which I dispise; Iraq.  It was a grab shot -- after a gun run we had to take the trucks to the motorpool for repair - Hambone drove and I rode shotgun; in the GreenZone.  Sometimes HamBone lead on to be my friend - and sometimes he didn't.  I always tried to be HamBone's friend.

HamBone was a lineman - after surviving Iraq - and some 1800 missions in the red-zone - he died 5 months after returning from eletrocution after grabbing a hot wire.  At the wake he was dressed with white gloves becuase his hands were so burned; so I heard.

Sam Abel described micro-composition when he discussed
his mantra of the photograph, at an event here in SLC.

See the bartender -- that's micro-composition.

The Office

I've been testing out the Canon SD780is PowerShot at the office -- and while it's no D2h, it has it's place.  The photos are good -- not great -- but the HD 720P video is nothing more than remarkable !!

Pictureline Salt Lake City sponsored a presentation last Friday night and a subsequent "photowalk" by Vincent Versace - www.versacephotography.com - sufice to say Madeline I were able to sign up for both - his availability to share years of the good, bad and ugly were priceless.

ScanCafe

Added on by John Sturr.

A few weeks ago I received the return of about 400 35mm of which I had scanned at www.scancafe.com.

Every once in a while I will post a few -- as I marvel at not only the subject matter, but the fact that these images are finally being seen -- some for not 30 years.

Added on by John Sturr.

Four years ago this weekend I arrived in country -- Baghdad, Iraq.  This was the first picture I took as I was traveling to what became a work detail for change of command at the International center near CrossSwords.  It was hot - very hot - I didn't like it very much.

9200 FEET

Added on by John Sturr.

Last weekend I ventured to the Wind Rivers Big Sandy Lake, 100 miles NE of RockSprings Wyoming, on a 3 day back-packing trip with old friends and new friends.  The air was thin, the packs were heavy, and the pain was satisfying.
